ADVICE TO A NEW SLAVE by Robert Payne

You have now given yourself or been traded or sold to your new Master. Every Master is unique, but there are certain pointers and guidelines which should make the general adjustment to your new life easier and more rewarding. Remember that not only are you his property, your entire life is now dedicated to serving and pleasing him in any way he desires-about which he is the authority.

1. Obey your Master fully, immediately and silently (except for "Yes, Sir"). Do not attempt to understand the reason behind the command. It is none of your concern.

2. Never question your Master. Especially in public. A Master is judged by the slaves he keeps and a reluctant or disobedient slave is the worst possible reflection on him.

3. Every statement or question directed to your Master should contain "Sir," or "Master" if he prefers — as a sign of respect and puts what you are about to say in the proper perspective.

4. Furniture, especially chairs, beds and couches, are forbidden to you from now on. Stand at all times unless your Master directs you otherwise with permission to sit. Then sit at his feet. It may be necessary for you to kneel or lie down to perform certain duties. Your Master will instruct you on this.

5. Show your body and wear your chains and marks with pride. Your Master cares enough for you to want you iden-tified as his property. If he wants you bare, bare everything with or without embarrassment to him. You'll get over your own embarrassment.

6. Accept your punishment gratefully. You may have done nothing intentionally, yet you still need a change of attitude or beating. Always thank your Master at the end of these enlightening sessions.

7. Any and all sexual matters are exclusively your Master's concern. He will tell you what he wants and when. Never question his judgment. If he requires something which you feel is beyond you, relax and be quiet; he may be trying to help you become a better slave by expanding your experience in this area. Your sexual needs are unimportant.

Forget whatever "limits" you think you may have had. Those are for weekend slavery trips. Your Master wants to protect his property and will do nothing to endanger it.

9. Take care of your health. You are there to serve, whether it be with labor or love. A sick slave is a burden to his Master.

Always make yourself available to your Master. Remember every inch of you is his and should be available to him any time. Don't make him have to reach for any part of his property.

11. Public exhibitions are up to him. There are places and situations that dragging a nude slave around by the ring in his nose or cock isn't appropriate. He should decide, not you. When in Rome …

12. Love, honor and obey but stay out of his hair. Of course he should know where you are and what you are doing at all times. But he has more important things to do than supervise you 24 hours a day.

Shotgun Productions continues its line of testicle torture videos with "Bound and Beaten." This film, like other Shotgun Productions stuff, is true fetish porn in the sense that it is primarily about one sex act. If you're into watching intense treatment delivered to balls, this is just the thing for you. If that's not what you want or if you crave greater variety in your raunch, look elsewhere .

The first segment in this video is the longest and the best. Roger (the top in nearly all Shotgun productions ) has a really cute boy tied spread eagle on a bed. He tells the boy that he can only stop the tor- ture by coming and asking to stop will do no good. After having over twenty pounds suspended from his sack and his balls squeezed in a vice the boy finally comes. Then, Roger makes the bottom withstand even more time in the vice until he comes too.

The next three scenes have almost exactly the same set-up although they add some interesting torture techniques. Roger administers electric charges to two of his boys. He also vacuum pumps one's nipples. All four bottoms are pretty hot and serve their top well.

Two of the segments feature Russo. It's all part of the growing genre of metaporn-videos about making videos. It really is an easy way to put four unconnected scenes together in the same tape.

Russo appears in the first scene with Joe Romero. There is an intriguing blurring of top and bot- tom in this segment. The scene starts with Russo tied up, but he's ordering Romero around. Despite the fact that Russo is bound, the sex in the scene is basically vanilla. At one point, Russo gets his cock and balls tied up, but that's about as far as it goes. Romero plays extensively with Russo's ass. At another point, it looks as though he may even be fucking Russo or just rubbing his dick against Russo's crack. Donnie Russo stars in another Close-Up Productions video. This time, however, Steve Johnson (not Russo) directed. "Daddy's Slave Induction" also delivers more raunch than "Sex Play by Russo."

The first segment runs for nearly the entire video. Russo plays the daddy who inducts two slave boys, Peter Bishop and Cory Taylor. The scene starts off a bit shaky. While Russo struts around trying to look tough and intimidating, Bishop and Taylor can hardly keep from giggling. Perhaps they are amused by Russo's attempts to fit words like "orchestrate," "accustomize," and "expedite" into his dirty talk. Russo attempts discipline to wipe the smiles off their faces with only limited success . Threatening them with the hot end of a cigar doesn't do the trick. He "forces" the two boys to make out. A fairly long segment of the two bottoms having vanilla sex as Russo barks out orders follows.

The action picks up when Russo commands Taylor to clean up Bishop. Bishop stands in a wash tub as Russo and Taylor pour cold beer over him. This goes on for too long, but it is more interesting than watching Taylor and Bishop kiss. Russo then pulls out a very large, double-headed dildo. He commands the boys to put condoms on it and lube it up - we know what's coming up. Bishop bends over, and Taylor loosens up Bishop's ass. He starts with one finger, but soon has three way up Bishop's butt. Then, they switch positions. So far, Bishop has seemed like the bigger bottom, but now we see just how hungry Taylor's ass is. Finally, Bishop shoves the dildo up Taylor then turns around to share it. During the dildo fuck, all three guys get off.

The second scene features Russo and Joe Romero and is strikingly similar to their scene in "Sex Play

by Russo." Some of the footage is even exactly the same. (Shame on you, Close-Up Productions!) The moment in this scene comes when Romero takes off his boots and ties them to Russo's balls. Even though Romero serves as an excellent bottom in the scene (he shoots while getting fucked), it seems that Russo could have been topped just as well. Russo has been an excellent bottom in other videos. Several times in this scene, it seems that he would surrender to Romero if he weren't being directed to be the top.

Cruising Kinky London

London is a city of ironies. The capital of a country known for its sexual conservatism, it is also the hub of Europe's liveliest fetish scene.

Some would argue that it is sexual repression - which bleeds over into England's sex laws - that is the root of London's flourishing fetish scene. Consenting sex between males 18 or older is a criminal offense. Public sex is also forbidden. Legally, consensual SM sex is considered an act of violence. Also be aware that London's fetish clubs and bars seem to be under permanent surveillance by the authorities. But ironically, London is where more kinky perverts live then elsewhere in the world: resulting in more fetish and cruise bars or clubs.

In London outside cruising can be problematic. Certainly many Londoners do cruise but crime really seems a problem. (Let alone the police.) Gay bashing also happens. Be warned that cottaging (having sex in a public toilet) is not allowed and police are keen on arresting guys with their pants on their ankles. But if you are game, there are several parks known for their bush activities, such as Hampstead Helosing between 10.30 and midnight .

Maneuvering the Streets

Not built on any sort of grid system, it is easy to get lost in London's maze of streets. A street map is invaluable. I recommend buying an A to Z street map or picking up one of the free gay maps. You can also ask directions from London's police officers (called bobbies). Fetish gear like combat, rubber and leather is extremely big in London and is not limited to the members of the fetish scene. Certainly, like every metropolitan city, London has its dark corners and scary alleys but it isn't taboo to wear your leathers out on the streets.

London's public transport system is advanced with buses and Metros (known as the Metro or Underground ). London also has the minicab, a marvelous innovation. Minicabs are cheap and usually friendly. Club doormen will call one for you, or you can call them through a free phone. I'd also recommend Freedom Cars, the only gay cab service in London (0171-734 1313) or Airport Express (0171-722 2700), the latter being the cheapest in airport transportation.

Daytime Bars and Clubs

Going to a pub in daytime limits your visits to Central London (Old Compton Street) or Earls Court in the West. (NOTE: When people say "Comptons" or "Comptons Street" they always mean Old Compton Street. And if they say, "Let's go to Comptons," they actually mean, "Let's go to Comptons of Soho," a pub.) Comptons of Soho is one of the most popular watering holes in England. It's where skinheads, leather folks, business men and students go before club hours. Cruising here is not difficult and being cruised is something you have to get accustomed to. Now on two levels, Comptons of Soho serves food upstairs. Due to this recent addition, Comptons cruising has actually increased.

The Old Compton Cafe is on the same street as Comptons of Soho. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week (and serving the worst cappuc-cino ) they do serve delicious pies, sandwiches or salads - all for a fair- ly high price. You meet all kinds of people at the Old Compton Cafe. The popular disco-bunnies, the leather guys, students, drag queens, bums, actors (this part of town, also known as the West End, is full of musical theaters), waiters, low lifes and other forms of the human species. The Old Compton Cafe is an absolute treat (except for the coffee).

AD VENTURES

Around the corner from Old Compton Street you'll find the Freedom Cafe. Not strictly a leather cafe / restaurant, it is still trendy. There are lots of fetish-oriented guys and girls here, it's a good place to meet people, look around - and be seen.

Coleherne's, situated on Old Brompton Road, is London's oldest leather cruise bar. (Upstairs is called the Detour). This large pub, which is across the street from the Clone Zone, has an enormous horse shoe shaped bar, pleasant bar staff and a friendly, lively crowd. On Mondays, Coloherne hosts Bunker I, a theme night.

Berlin's Nightlife

The Anvil

More a place for the younger generation and the new guard, including skinheads, The Anvil is very popular. It just gets cruisier and cruisier. Very comfortable, friendly and self-described as "HIV friendly." By now, they will have re-opened there spacious upstairs cruising ground.

Attitude

Attitude is the largest membership-club in England. They stage the extremely popular underwear parties. Open seven days a week, Attitude is always busy after 8 p.m. Thursday is fetish night. Although looking for new premises, Attitude is presently at their Peckham location. They advertise as a touch of Amsterdam in London. And that seems right.

Backstreet at Wentworth Mews

In the far east of London, Backstreet is worth a visit during the weekend. It has a very strict dress code: only black leather and rubber- dressed men are allowed entrance. Called "very Amsterdam," Backstreet has a small-club atmosphere. There's plenty of cruising and a good mixture of ages. The cruising in the back is strong.

Brompton's

When the Coleherne closes, the clientele go across the street to Brompton's and continue their fun. This western-styled club is big, busy and cruisy. It features a square dancing and western theme on Sundays and a leather chaps disco on Tuesday nights.

Bulk

London's very popular night spot for bears and their admirers. Bulk is the place for the stocky, stout, fat and fabulous. Every first and third Saturday of the month.

Central Station

Just a few blocks from King's Cross. Voted best bar for several years now. The basement is their sleaze area, with theme nights like Skin 4 Skin at The Barracks, The Maze, Glory Hole and Manstink. Cruisy, humid, dark, busy and very popular. The first floor features drag shows, karaoke, strippers, game shows and meetings of different organizations such as the Countdown on Spanner Campaign, SM BI-s (the SM-organization for bisexuals) and the London Blues, a uniform club. Upstairs you can relax and eat out in their intimate restaurant.

Club 180

Every Monday at Club 180 it's Bunker II (following Bunker I at the Coleherne). Club 180 is open for everyone dressed in leather, rubber and uniforms.

FIST

The most popular monthly fetish club for gays and lesbians, FIST occurs at Substation South on the last Saturday of each month. This is an absolute extraordinary experience for the more advanced cruisers and dirty hard-core leather men and women. FIST calls itself the clits and dicks sleaze pit! Busier and busier with horrendous queues (lines), get there early. FIST caters to an XTC and techno crossover as well as a hard-core crowd. FIST has some pretty shocking acts. With its underwear parties and other fetish oriented theme nights, Substation South is growing in popularity. The second Saturday of each month is Pleasure Zone night which is extremely cruisy and has a similar following to FIST, but less hard and fetish-experienced. A Post-FIST Gathering is organized at 313 Norwood Road, Herne Hill, London SE24. It's not far from Substation South and is the ultimate chance to explore the underground scene at someone's private dungeon. Hosts are Murray, Andrew and Felix. No entrance fee plus free drinks and condoms.

The London Apprentice

East London's most popular down-to-earth pub / club, The London Apprentice attracts both a fetish and a non-fetish crowd. There's dancing in the basement, groping crotches at the toilets, cruising in the ground floor bar and relaxing in the upstairs cool-down area. On Fridays and Saturdays The London Apprentice is packed to the rafters but you can usually find a spot to nurse a beer and have a good chat. It's known to Londoners as the LA. Beware!

Market Tavern

The Sunday brunch and the Leather Market on Wednesdays are the Market Tavern's most popular times. This club used to be very busy, but looks like it is losing its following. The spacious club has two bars, one of which has a dance floor - and extremely busy toilets which I will never forget.

Service Station

Called a cruisy and very dark pick-up joint by Boyz Magazine, the Service Station is relatively new. It has popular fetish and theme nights, such as underwear, Docs and jocks.

Silks' 95

In far west London, Silks is where the skinheads and boot-lovers have an intimate basement club. (Intimate in England often means small.) It's only open on Monday and Tuesday and restricted to skinheads into SM and fetish.

Motor Sport Club London

Meets at the Salmon & Compasses each Friday from 9 p.m.

Skin 4 Skin (S4S)

The ad has been appearing for several months in one of the leading SM magazines. We have all read ads and porn stories about sex slaves and their Masters. That is fiction and fantasy, but what is your actual reality? Are you prepared to be the real article -- no reservations, no self-interest.

To people not familiar with the actual dynamics of the relationship between Master and slave, slavery is viewed to be total capitulation to the Master. To surrender totally: job; clothes; body; and self. Yet, is this really slavery, or just another fork of daddy / boy games? Is this abject surrender (to be ruled by a Master who denies his slave any decision-making) the act of a slave, or just that of a greedy and pushy bottom who has an indulgent Master with a control problem? In this form of relationship , every act of the slave is circumscribed by, and the responsibility of, the Master. Is this domination of the slave by the Master, or domination of the Master by the bottom / slave? Thus, the classic question: who controls the relationship , the Top or the bottom?

For the ultimate slave, this question is resolved in favor of the Top's domination of the demands of the bottom. The ultimate slave is an asset to his Master, rather than a burden, regardless of how pleasurable a burden. This should be the litmus test which measures ultimate slavery vs. Daddy / boy relationships.

The ultimate slave can be many things in a relationship, but his first and foremost responsibility is his dedication to his Master with an overriding concern for the needs and demands of his Master. There is no room in his life for any other goal, interest or self-interest . This selflessness is not to be confused with the surrender of self-responsibility. orned to his Master's needs and demands, the slave's personal needs become secondary to those of his Master. Yet, this is a passive surrender. It is an active role; to anticipate the needs of the Master, to obey the Master's direction to the greatest extent possible. The slave's personal responsibility is to minimize the decisions the Master has to make for the household , as well as for the slave, so that the Master can concentrate his energies on the important facets of the Master's own life. This subordination is the lodestone of the ultimate slave.

The needs and socio-sexual demands of the slave are met by the Master through the subtle exercise of his Master, the superimposition of the Master's needs, desires, and ideas upon the slave. The demanding slave is met with total and overwhelming control of the Master. The slave voluntarily becomes an extension of his Master's will, not just a receptacle of his Master's demands.

There is only one facet that is within the total and absolute control of the slave in an ultimate slave situation; the actual decision to submit to his Master without reservations. This is the only permissible selfish act for the ultimate slave. It is not an act of surrender , of powerlessness, of negation of self-worth, of self-respect. It is an act requiring a great strength of ego to successfully work between the slave and Master. It is not to be lightly undertaken. It can not be a role, for the Master will not and should not provide a script for the slave to follow. The ultimate slave is not a victim in the relationship, passively accepting whatever whims his Master ordains. It is a socio-sexual merger of two persons, meeting the needs of both through a melding of the slave's needs to those only of his Master.

The final measure of an ultimate slave is pride. Some Tops / Daddies expect their bottoms / sons to respectfully or fearfully keep a downcast attitude, never to look their Masters directly in the face, as they are inferior beings. They are cast in the position of being worthless, less than a man. They are broken, but not rebuilt. An ultimate slave is both broken and reformed, remade into a new being, proud of his station. The armed services, especially the corps, have always recognized this quality. An ultimate slave can look anyone straight in the face, even his Master, with self-pride. This pride in being is not to be confused with arrogance or insolence . It is the pride of accomplishment , of performance beyond the capabilities of most. He has chosen to be a slave, and is proud in his service to his Master. It is only in failure that shame exists for the slave. The use of this shame by a skillful Master can be a most potent tool of punishment and discipline.

Are you what it takes to be an ultimate slave? I am not speaking of a neutered, selfless being that will take no decision-making responsibility for his own life. I am not speaking of an indulgent and spoiled son who expects daddy to make all the decisions, and pick up the pieces.

I proclaim and exult the freedom of ultimate slavery. To the slave's expansion of his being through his subordination. To the Master's freedom and responsibility to create and mold a new per-sonae , beyond the confines of an ordinary boy / houseboy, to the ability to mold the slave without any reservation as the Master's will requires.

A young man's appearance can be altered or improved in many ways. I do not care if you affect to be a leather punk, or GQ model. You will be neither when the Master is through. These are the standards for training that are non-negotiable upon entry into service:

Nakedness will be strictly and unquestionably controlled as to circumstances. There are times when a naked slave is down right annoying and intolerable.

Your physical availability is obvious and without reservation. You are your Master's alone to do with as he requires: to be a sexual partner; an object of service; a decoration; or a piece of furniture.

Health concerns will be rigorously observed for mutual protection , and mutually agreed limitations will be observed through the use of double fail-safes. The affairs of the household, and overheard or directly communicated matters will travel no further. You will accept reprimands and punishments for failures of duty without reservation or recrimination. These acts of punishment shall be explicit as to their cause, and shall be explicitly separate from any other act of discipline, or subservience . Punishment is not a place for pleasure-giving or pleasure -taking. This is the boundary of sadism, not SM.

You will be ever mindful that the Master's personal and professional life have priority over the affairs of the household. If he is busy, or involved in business, you will discreetly be silent and uncritical. He does not expect to have a slave underfoot at these times. Most of us get our first ideas about slavery from short stories and novels that depict various relationships between masters and Some slaves. are adventure stories complete with kidnapping, murder, and mutilation. Others, such as the wonderful works of John Preston, offer a more realistic view into a leather lifestyle of domination and submission.

There are several over-riding considerations about slavery that need to be recognized. Issues of finance, health, friends, family, and employment will influence the slave's day to day life just as much as the master's whip or desire for pleasure.

First of all the slave must be healthy insofar as there are no medical impediments to his functioning .

Secondly, neither the slave nor the master is financially independent . If the slave has a source of income, such as an inheritance, disability income, investments, or the like, it would be ideal for him to work only in the master's home or office. That not being the case, as chance will probably have it, I estimate that the average slave will need to generate about $1,000.00 per month in revenue for his master.

Food, clothing, transportation, insurance, savings, rent, utilities, and entertainment will easily cost that much, even in the most conservative of situations. Here, envi- ronment plays a big role. Rural living is cheaper than urban. Older masters have less expenses than younger ones. A boy in debt costs more to maintain than one with equity and cash flow.

Let's assume, then, that the master is of middle class means (that's approximately my state) and the slave works part-time (twenty hours a week) outside of his master's home and office.

My new slave will join my social arena and will live with me in my third floor condo on the north side of Chicago. He will have a designated sleeping area where he can retire when dismissed by his master. The slave will carry a permanent mark of his owner's choosing.

The slave will stay naked in the home, except when company (such as visiting females) makes clothing necessary.

He will awaken in the morning before his master. I prefer orange juice before I get out of bed. The slave will deliver it, make coffee, and discern whether his master has any further needs. I, for one, am often horny in the morning.

On most nights the slave will have slept with me, but not always. An occasional night on the floor, in bondage, or upstairs is certainly in order. I have two other relationships that take precedence over my slave. He will be dismissed to give me time to enjoy those relationships.

"Restricted Entry: Censorship on Trial" by Janine Fuller and Stuart Blackley, Press Gang Publishers, 186 pp., $16.95. "Forbidden Passages: Writings Banned In Canada," Cleis Press, $14.95.

Canadian customs has been seizing shipments containing books with the work of gay artists and writers for ten years now, under an extremely vague "pro-feminist" amendment. Funny, but they only seem to stop the ones en route to queer bookstores. That does-n't seem very feminist.

After years of dealing with bureaucratic bullshit and backbreaking financial losses, Little Sisters Book and Art Emporium in Vancouver took the Canadian government to court. And won. But only after five years and hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees. And the government is expected to appeal the decision.

Two new books give us the dirt on the case. "Restricted Entry" reads like a courtroom drama, with testimony from queer artists and theorists about the value of sexually explicit materials. If you are concerned about censorship this book is a must read. Our SM lives are placed in the center of any discussion of porn and free speech, and we can't afford to ignore them.

To take a look at some of the actual texts that Canada customs officers have seized, read "Forbidden Passages ." Clearly the floor under some customs official's desk is sticky with cum, reading pieces like "Daddy's Little Girl" by Ann Wertheim, and books like "My Biggest O" by Jack Hart.

Some of the other banned authors are a little more mysterious, bell hooks? Marguerite Duras? I guess people can jack off to anything. Or maybe they thought such feminist writers fall under Hate Literature, another category on the form customs officers have to fill out when detaining a book.
